There are two ways to describe congenital malformations, transverse deficiency and longitudinal deficiency.  Describe the differences.

Transverse deficiency is where there is no distal limb available after the site of congenital malformation.

Longitudinal deficiency is where there is distal limb available after the congenital malformation.  An example would be not having a tibia present in your limb but the fibular is present.
